When Julia Roberts showed up at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington, DC on Sunday wearing a gown covered with pictures of her lifelong friend George Clooney, she showed off her heart.
Jeremy Scott, the creative director of Moschino, created the garment especially for her, as stated in an Instagram post by the actress’ stylist Elizabeth Stewart. The dress included pictures of the actor in various gold frames from across his career, including his appearance in “ER” and his polka-dot cover for W Magazine’s art issue from December 2013.Roberts accessorized her red carpet ensemble with silver jewelry and a cropped black jacket.
Roberts looked to dress differently for a pre-ceremony reception hosted by President Joe Biden for the Kennedy Center honorees earlier in the evening. Pictures from Sunday capture the actress in an elegant black dress with lustrous lapels in the White House East Room.
Insider’s request for comment was not immediately answered by Stewart or Roberts’ agents.
Along with Gladys Knight, composer Tania León, singer-songwriter Amy Grant, and members of U2 (Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.), Clooney was honored at the event on Sunday. The actor received recognition for both his long career in performing and his charitable endeavors.
Clooney and Roberts have been pals for a long time; in 2016, Clooney told People that they initially met on the production of the 2001 heist movie “Ocean’s Eleven.” The two most recently starred together in the romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise,” which is set in 2022 and centers on a divorced couple who band together to ruin their daughter’s wedding.
On set, the well-known friends are known to make fun of one another and pull practical jokes on one another. During an October interview, Roberts disclosed to Jake Hamilton of Good Day Chicago that she had Clooney saved on her phone under the name “Batman.”
During a 2013 BAFTA Britannia Awards address, Clooney remarked of Roberts, “It’s very hard for me to be just straight nice because she’ll get me later,” according to the New York Daily News. “However, she is simply an incredible wife, mother, and friend.”
