March the homeless Pit Bull was a laid-back and joyful man when he was initially taken off the streets, according to ilovemydogsomuch.
The staff at the city shelter in Philadelphia was optimistic that this well-mannered kid would soon find his forever home. However, March’s stay in the shelter quickly turned into a terrifying nightmare.
March was not accustomed to sharing cramped cages with other terrified creatures up for adoption. He suffered psychologically from this, and his zeal started to fade. The worst setback for him, though, was being turned down by a family who had offered to adopt him on the grounds that he wasn’t as “playful” as they had anticipated.
March was devastated to see that the adoptive family had eventually canceled the adoption and given him back to the shelter. March returned to his chilly kennel and appeared plainly defeated and dejected. He slouched to one corner, staring hopelessly at the wall and refusing to speak to anyone.
Dawn Timmeney, a local news reporter, decided to post March’s tragic story on social media after learning about him. March’s life was permanently affected by the eerie photos of him in his dejected kennel pose that went viral in the neighborhood!
After just three days of Dawn’s social media campaign, a rescuer offered to take him in before his death list turn was scheduled for March. March made his escape from the refuge, a unique moment of victory!
March will be well-cared for by the new rescue, a no-kill group, until he gets his forever home. Although March’s story ends happily, millions of dogs in shelters are euthanized because they are unable to adjust or find homes in a timely manner. Let’s play our role and speak up for these poor folks. Get the word out.
