One of the guests returning to the event is Alan Jackson, who will receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. However, the organizers of the event will undoubtedly be crossing their fingers that everything goes smoothly with his attendance.
In 2016, during the CMA Awards’ 50th anniversary performance by Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks, Alan reportedly left the event.
Before the event, Alan was very clear about his opposition to pop stars attending country music award ceremonies.
In response to a question regarding his hopes for the CMAs 50th anniversary gala, Alan said, “Yeah, they may play some real country music.”.
But, the speaker continued, “I understand how the dang television station is trying to get the ratings with whatever they think will support it, with some big event with some other type of artist on there.
Yes, perhaps this time it’ll be a good country music show, he said.
Many people liked the performance even though Beyonce isn’t a country music performer. When Alan didn’t get his way, he made a point of storming out of the ceremony.
Billboard quoted a Nashville manager as saying that Alan “stood up from the front row and walked out in the middle of the performance.”.
Alan might not be too pleased this year either because Hollywood star Jessica Chastain and Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts are scheduled to present an award.
Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, and many more will perform at the 2022 ceremony to entertain the distinguished audience.
